Kodiak Soil and Water Conservation District (KSWCD) is proud to announce that we are starting a native plant nursery! KSWCD aims to produce locally-adapted native plants for growers, landscapers, and revegetation projects.
While this project is new, our passion for native plants is not! KSWCD has been controlling invasive species on Kodiak for over 20 years, all so our native habitats can flourish. Kodiak's native species make it a truly special place.
Little literature is available that describes how to propagate many of our native species. If you have information about growing some of Kodiak's native plants, please get in touch! We are interested in learning from anyone who has attempted to grow these species, including what did or did not work.
Are you interested in native plants? Maybe you can help KSWCD with this project! Here are some ways you can help us develop our nursery:
If you have other ideas or questions about ways you may be able to help this program, please contact us!
KSWCD plans to conduct native plant events such as native plant walks where we will discuss native plants and their role in the ecosystem, native plant growing workshops, and more. Let us know what you are interested in learning!
KSWCD will be developing educational materials about native plants. Please get in touch if you have ideas about some resources you would like to see developed.
